Senior Iraqi Sunni Clerics: Islamic Revolution Transformed Not Only Iran, but the Entire Region

Sheikh Khalid al-Mulla, head of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq, has hailed Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution as a historic turning point that reshaped not only Iran but the broader West Asian region.

Hawzah News Agency- In a message marking the anniversary of the Revolution’s victory, al-Mulla described the event as an “exceptional and qualitative transformation” brought about by the determined will and steadfast faith of the Iranian people.

“February 11 represents a profound transformation achieved by a free and dignified nation,” he said, referring to the date that marks the collapse of the Pahlavi monarchy in 1979. “The Iranian people recognized their divine responsibility and stood firmly against the dictator of the time, the Shah, who acted within the framework of global hegemonic powers and squandered his country’s wealth in service of the Zionist regime.”

Al-Mulla emphasized that the impact of the Islamic Revolution extended far beyond Iran’s borders. “February 11, 1979, was a day that transformed not only Iran but the entire region. It altered its political and cultural landscape and offered enduring lessons in resistance, struggle, and steadfast support for the Palestinian cause,” he stated.

He noted that the Revolution revitalized the discourse of independence and resistance across the Muslim world, inspiring movements and nations seeking to assert sovereignty and reject foreign domination.

The Iraqi cleric further commended the Iranian nation’s resilience over decades of pressure, including economic sanctions, security challenges, and imposed wars. “On this occasion, we congratulate the Iranian people for their iron will and salute their steadfastness throughout the years in the face of unjust blockades, external pressures, and wars imposed upon them,” al-Mulla said.

Concluding his message, the head of Iraq’s Sunni scholars’ association described the Islamic Revolution as a living example of perseverance and faith-driven transformation, underscoring its continuing influence on regional dynamics and the struggle for justice in Palestine and beyond.
